Alcorn, Lois M.LANCASTER - Lois M. Alcorn, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Friday, July 6, 2007, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on April 12, 1931, the daughter of Earl and Beatrice (Brandemuehl) Hoffman in the town of Beetown. She went to Grays Mill Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1949. Lois married Ralph H. Alcorn on January 6, 1951. Lois was the owner and operator of the Pink Pony, a landmark restaurant for over 30 years. The restaurant was originally established as a Tastee Freez franchise in 1952, while she was only 21 years old. In 1959, she painted everything pink and transitioned the restaurant to the Pink Pony. In 1974, she built a new restaurant which stayed in business until 1983 when it finally closed. She employed and mentored many people who went on to have successful careers on their own. During this time, she contributed and served through many organizations, including, President of the Grant County Farm Bureau, President of the Grant County Republican party, and 1983 delegate to the National Republican Convention nominating President Regan for a second term; board membership of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and Wisconsin Board of Tourism; the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce; and, a den leader for the Cub Scouts. After selling the Pink Pony, she settled down for her "second life," farming with her husband, Ralph, and son, Don, on the exact farm where she was born. She loved the farm more than anywhere else. She continued to work catering, providing day care, and continued her service and memberships, including the Big Sister organization, Trustee of the United Methodist Church, Lancaster Garden Club, Lancaster Art Club and the Red Hat Association. She had a great passion for life and lived each day with intention. She loved and enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, mushroom hunting, traveling, playing cards, painting, boating, fishing and camping on the Mississippi (a true River Rat), skiing and snowmobiling and Bible study. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Ralph of Lancaster; her children, Don (Mary) Alcorn of Lancaster, Randy (Ann) Alcorn of Franklin, Ted Alcorn of Costa Mesa, Calif., Angie (Shawn) O'Leary of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Lisa (Steve) Landau of St. Albert, Canada; ten grandchildren; three sisters, Lavon Hall of Lancaster, Jean (Ken) Irish of Bagley and Wyleen (Clark) High of Tripoli; brothers-in-law, Duane Schneider of East Troy and Curt Welch of Knoxville, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Lois was preceded in death by her sisters, Maxine Hoffman, Marian Welch and JoAnn Schneider; and a brother-in-law, Vonnie Hall. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Lancaster with the Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster. Friends are also welcome from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church on Monday.
