He was born August 26, 1924 in Town of Centerville, WI, son of the late Gregor & Catherine (Schwartz) Leonhard. He married Mary Agnes Juckem on April 27, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Tony and Mary Agnes purchased their farm in the Town of Chilton in 1957 and the couple operated the dairy operation until 1986 when they retired. During this time, Tony also worked road maintenance for the Town of Chilton. He would often be seen driving the grader in the summer and plowing town roads in the winter. In retirement, Tony picked up the game of golf and worked at the Calumet County Fairgrounds until just 3 years ago. His hard work and dedication to the fair association earned him the recognition of Fair Person of the Year in 2011.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and belonged to the Charlestown branch of the Catholic Knights. Grass didn’t grow under Tony’s feet; he was always looking for things to be done, and people to help along the way. In moments of reprieve, Tony enjoyed a good game of Bean Bags, Sheepshead, or the quietude of puzzle making. He will be remembered as a hard worker, a great father and a joy to everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife: Mary Agnes; his children: Geri (Bob) Schmitz of Brookfield, Barb (Paul) Brazee of Brillion, Joanne Leonhard of Chilton, Chuck (Connie) Leonhard of New Holstein, Mary (Russ) Boldt of Brillion, Lori (Jim) Koller of Chilton; 11 grandchildren: John & Mike Schmitz, Jen Mastey, Chris (Heidi) Brazee, Nate (Lauren) Leonhard, Brad Leonhard, Matt, Amanda & Megan Boldt, Emily & Tony Koller; 3 great grandchildren: Gracie & Mya Mastey, Oliver Massey, and another arriving in January; and 2 sisters: Clarissa Tadych, Ellen (Harry, Jr.) Sturtz. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; close family friend: Alan Reichwald; 8 sisters; 5 brothers; as well as other in-laws, extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton with Tony’s nephew the Rev. Ron Belitz officiating and the Rev. Ryan Krueger concelebrating. Entombment will be in the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc.
