Hugo A. Leonhard, 89, formerly of 1520 S. 11th St. and more recently a three year resident of Greendale Health Care Center, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, 1998, at St. Nicholas Hospital.
Hugo was born Oct. 4, 1909 in Cleveland, Wis., a son of the late Geogor and Catherine (Schwartz) Leonhard. He attended area schools.
On Jan. 17, 1933, Hugo was united in marriage to the former Mary Ann Guckeisen at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Mary Ann died Dec. 31, 1986.
For approximately ten years, Hugo operated Leonhard's Sinclair Service Station in Sheboygan. He later became a distributor for Gary Automotive Products and retired in 1974.
Hugo loved stock car racing and over the years, built numerous cars.
Survivors include two sons, Lee (Ellen) Leonhard, Sheboygan and James (Dawn) Leonhard, Tacoma, Wash.; one daughter, Marge (Terry) Slakes, Valparaiso, Ind.; one brother, Anthony (Mary) Leonhard, Chilton; five sisters, Viola Braun, Sheboygan; Catherine Sukowaty, Newton; Florence (Walter) Kress, Cleveland; Clarissa (Raymond) Tadych, Chilton and Ellen (Harry) Sturtz, Chilton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hugo was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Hugo was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. The Rev. Ronald Belitz, will be celebrants. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Ramm-Ziegler-Novak-Rettke Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1535 S. 12th St., on Friday, from 4-8 p.m., where a parish vigil will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church, 1444 S. 11th St., on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m.
Hugo's family has established a memorial fund in his name.
