Viola A. Braun, 96, passed away Wednesday morning, January 27, 2010 at the home of her niece, Mary and Robert Taylor, where she had been staying.

Born September 8, 1913 in the Town of Centerville, Manitowoc County, Viola was a daughter of the late Gregor and Catherine (Schwartz) Leonhard. She attended area county grade schools. On June 27, 1936, she was united in marriage to Elmer W. Hinze in the Town of Meeme. He preceded her in death. She then married Willard A. Braun on January 28, 1961 in Chilton who also preceded her in death.

Viola was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles and playing cards. She especially enjoyed keeping her family genealogy.

She is survived by a brother, Tony (Mary Agnes) Leonhard, Chilton; two sisters, Clarissa Tadych and Ellen (Harry) Sturtz, both of Chilton; a brother-in-law, Walter Kress, Cleveland; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Besides her husbands, Elmer and Willard, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Herbert, Arno, Lawrence and Hugo; and seven sisters, Hilaria Dreps, Mathilda Fesing, Evelyn Kolberg, Magdaline Belitz, Delores Leonhard, Catherine Sukowaty, and Florence Kress.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st & Geele Avenue. The Rev. John Radetski, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Visiting Nurses Association and to Father Radetski and her church family at St. Dominic Catholic Church for all of their care and support.
