Mary Luella Kemble Oakley, 63, died in Lafayette Home Hospital at 12:05 PM Monday [March 11, 1974]. She had been hospitalized for two weeks and in failing health for the past year. Born in Shadeland in 1910, she was reared in Lafayette, and attended Lafayette schools.
Mrs. Oakley had lived in North Carolina for five years before returning to Lafayette 14 years ago. She was employed as a housekeeper at Lafayette Home Hospital for the past 13 years, and also worked part-time at the Market Square Lanes snack bar for the last ten years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the YMCA, Lafayette Home Hospital Auxiliary, and the Golden Age.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Nellie M. Kemble of Lafayette; three sisters, Louise (Mrs. Lloyd) Campbell of Vicksburg, MI, Helen (Mrs. Rule) Hudelson of Lafayette, and Mrs. Elizabeth Gross of Marion, OH; a brother, Aaron William Kemble of Newtown; also several nieces and nephews. Her father, Raymond Kemble, preceded her in death, Feb. 14, 1972.
