WENDELL - Sallie Rue Alford Jefferys, 78, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at Sunnybrook Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Jonnston County on September 16, 1935 to the late Alma A. Alford and Libby Batten Alford. She graduated from Corinth-Holders High School in 1953. For many years along with her late husband, Edward Warren Jefferys, they owned and operated Jefferys' Grocery in Wendell. Sallie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend to many.

Sallie is survived by her son, Edward Wayne Jefferys of Wendell; sisters: Jean A. Claffey of Greensboro and Willie Sue A. Currin of Raleigh.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. Burial will follow at Baptist Tabernacle Church Cemetery, 1599 NC Highway 231, Wendell, NC 27591. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm-1:45 pm, and other times at the home of Jimmy and Barbara Alford, 4417 Lake Wendell Road, Wendell, NC 27591.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sallie was preceded in death by her brothers: Alton "Shug", Valton "Red", Carlton "Tiny", Billy Wayne and Bobby Alford; sisters: Christine Alford, Rachel Ingram, Edith Walker, Lila Ruth Mincey and Jane Bailey.

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Tabernacle Church.
