Wilbert Grafton "Bert" Ward, 79, of Woodland Ave., Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Reynoldsville, Preston County, son of the late Edgar Grafton and Anna Roe Ward.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the famous 82nd Airborne U.S. Army Parachute Troops. He was the recipient of four bronze stars. He was a retired U.S. Postal employee. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 548 and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel E. Ward; a son and spouse, Jeffrey and Terri Ward, of Morgantown; two granddaughters, Barbara Kent, of Morgantown, and Jennifer Ward, of Indians Rock Beach, Fla.; five brothers and spouses, Buck and Mildred Ward, of Independence, Carl and Jan Ward, of New Mexico, Jimmy and Helen Ward, of Baden, Pa., Ray and Mary Ward, of North Carolina, and Bob Ward, of Texas; and four sisters, Evelyn Phillips and Jean Drake, both of Ambridge, Pa., Naomi Price, of Baden, and Doris Kolar, of Sewickley, Pa. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Ward; and a sister, Betty Peffer.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from noon Friday, Aug. 17, until the 2 p.m. service, with the Rev. Bennie Moran officiating.
Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. VFW Post 548 will conduct graveside military rites.
