Joseph was the son of Theodore Brescia and Angela Simone.

New York passenger lists revealed Joseph Brescia immigrated with his family to America from the ports of Le Havre, France and Plymouth, England. Arriving in the port of New York, New York on the ship, Amerique on Aug 2, 1883. Nationality: Italian. Other family members: Simoni Brescia (43), Rafaela Brescia (23), Joseph Brescia (21), Nicolas Brescia (11), Angela Brescia (8) and Rosine Brescia (Infant).

Marriage record revealed Joseph Brescia and Mary Batastini married on Oct 7, 1891 in Muscogee Co, Georgia.

The 1900 census revealed they were living in Columbus Ward 1, Muscogee Co, Georgia. Joseph was born in Aug 1863 and Mary was born in Aug 1868. Joseph and his parents were born in Italy, Mary and her mother were born in Georgia, her father was born in Italy. Joseph immigrated to America in 1879. They had been married nine years, had 4 children all still living. Illness Is Fatal To Joseph Brescia

An illness of a 6 weeks proved fatal yesterday morning to Josephy Breshcia, who died at his home, 2923 Twelfth avenue.

He came here from Italy, his native land, 50 years ago, being born in 1863, and would have been 76 years of age had he lived until August.

After coming to Columbus he married Miss Mary Batastini in October, 1891, who preceded him in death in August 1912. Two years later he married Mrs. May Batastini, of Columbus. He was a devout member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by five sons, C.J. Brescia of Los Angeles, Calif.; T. H., Billie, Marsella, and Jack Brescia, all of Columbus; five daughters, Mrs. J. T. Bryant, Mrs. G. E. Wolfe and Miss Margerite Brescia, all of Columbus; Mrs. E. Z. Homes, of Gainesville, Ga., and Mrs. C.P. Claiborne, of Washington. D. C.; one brother, Paschal Brescia, of Portsmouth, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Resolute of Portsmouth, Va.; three stepchildren, Mrs. Neil Sibio and J. B. Batastini of Columbus, and P. J. Batastini, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning from the Holy Family Catholic church with Father Dan McCarthy officiating. Interment will be in Linwood cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers; A. J. Perroux, J. T. Allen, Joe Spano, Dr. W. B. Harper, Nathan Hunter and Claude Batastini.

Sexton's card file for Linwood Cemetery revealed Joseph Brescia, married male, died aged 75 years of cerebral hemorrhage at 2923 First Avenue; interred 6-9-1939 in Section 2, Lot 684 by undertaker Britton & Dobbs, per local death certificate #1001 - Sexton J. B. S. Note at top of card: To Parkhill 6-7-72; Disinterred 6-8-72, [permit] #0702. Remarks at bottom of card: Moved to Parkhill Cemetery by Castello - Sexton Davis L. Brookins 6-7-72.
