Obituary for Georgine Farragut Vix
( ? ~ January 18, 2015)

Faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and loyal friend and relative to many, Georgine(Genie) Henrietta Farragut Vix wife of the late Elbert Chester Vix, passed away on Sunday, January 18th. During her 17-year battle with Alzheimer’s, she received the loving care and support of her husband, family and loyal friends which allowed her to slip away peacefully in her home to continue her journey in God’s loving arms.

Genie graduated from Pass Christian High School where she was on the varsity basketball team for five years. She continued to be an active member of the Alumni Association and worked tirelessly on the Annual Banquet. She and her husband were always the first and usually the last on the dance floor.

She met the love of her life while working for two weeks at the Merchant Marine Base in Pass Christian. Ten months later in 1946 they married at Trinity Episcopal Church and spent the next 65 years cherishing their life together.
After their marriage, they moved to New Orleans where she began her career as a homemaker. She excelled in her role as the caregiver for her family. She was active at her daughter’s schools, attended Grace Episcopal Church where she was the President of the ECW and later became a contributing member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie.

After retiring to Pass Christian in 1990, she became active in Trinity Episcopal Church and was a member of St. Monica’s Guild. She organized and led the first exercise program for Senior Citizens at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Genie was a member of the New Orleans and Gulf Coast Chapters of the DAR. She was also a dedicated advocate for residents of the Miramar Nursing Home.
Hurricane Katrina destroyed most of her material possessions but she remained a happy and positive person. Never asking “why me?” but always thankful that she had her wonderful husband and family. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Gene Vix Weinberger(David) and Jo Ann Vix Lozes(Edward), whom she loved and supported with her kind and gentle spirit in every way possible through all the phases of their lives.

She felt blessed to have grandchildren, Elbert Weinberger(Heather), Allen Weinberger, Jordan Weinberger Smith and Luke Lozes and two great-grandchildren Sean Smith and Lily Clacker to love. She enjoyed many fun adventures with the grandchildren…trips to Ship Island, canoe trips on Wolf River, fishing and crabbing in Bay St. Louis – not to mention watching countless ballgames in which they played.
Genie, who had strong roots to Pass Christian, was one of twelve children. She was born on August 14, 1926 to two wonderful parents, Charles Cooper and Annie Sylvesta Griffin Farragut . She is survived by five siblings, Leada Farragut Adam Niolet (Herman), Betty Farragut Van Zandt (Edward), Alice Farragut Russell (Tom), Grace Farragut Necaise, and Joe Farragut (Phyllis). She was preceded in death by Norma Farragut Bonney Cantrell (Louis), Annie Farragut Necaise (Horace), Cooper Farragut (Geraldine), David Farragut (Pat), Wallace Farragut (Diane), and Adolph Farragut.

When it came to helping others, she was a true "Southern Lady." She was always happy to have the friends of her children join family meals. If someone needed any type of seamstress work, she willingly offered her outstanding talents. Service to others gave her great pleasure.
Genie lived a life filled with her love of God, family and friends. She did this through her regular attendance at church services and many large family gatherings. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. The world lost an Angel. "Her selflessness was only matched by her kindness."
Visitation will be on Saturday, January, 24, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pass Christian, MS from 11:00 AM until noon. Services will follow in the church at noon, and burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery. Donations may be made to PCHS Alumni Association or Trinity Episcopal Church in her memory.

The Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is serving the family.
