Betty Christine (Farragut) Van Zandt
January 23, 1933 ~ July 10, 2021

It is with profound sadness and much love that the family of Betty Farragut Van Zandt of De Lisle, announces her peaceful passing on July 10, 2021 at the age of 88 after an extremely lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Edward. Her children, Jimmy (Sharon) Van Zandt, Ann Van Zandt Niolet, and Woodie Van Zandt; 7 grandchildren, Matt (Khaila) Van Zandt, Katherine Van Zandt (Brandon) Peel, Jeffery (Irina) Niolet, Kimberly Niolet (Mickey) Paduda, Britni Van Zandt (Aaron) Cobb, Brandi Van Zandt (David) Warthen, and Brooke Van Zandt; 18 loving great-grandchildren; she leaves behind siblings and their spouses, Alice (Tom) Russell, Grace (JD) Necaise and Joe (Phyllis) Farragut. She was a loving aunt to numerous nephews and nieces, and she never ever met a stranger.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving parents, Charles C. and Vesta Griffin Farragut; siblings and their spouses, Aldoph Farragut, Leada and Herman Niolet, Norma "Pint" and Delmore Bonney and Lou Cantrell, Annie and Junior Necaise, Genie and Elbert Vix, Cooper and Geri Farragut, David and Pat Farragut, and Wallace, and Diane Farragut. She also said goodbye to son-in-law, Mike Niolet and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Van Zandt.

Betty was born in the family's home and remained in Pass Christian until 1962, at which time she and Ed moved their family to De Lisle. An avid outdoor person, Betty could be found in vegetable garden, where she grew the best garlic around, among other vegetables or tending her beautiful roses and other flowers. She was known for her green thumb. As it had been said, she could stick a pencil in the ground and grow a tree. She also enjoyed spending time on the water fishing and in the woods camping or hunting. She always said that the water was such a peaceful spot, a place to relax not just catch fish. As for hunting, she not only hunted deer, but she was known to bring home some mighty large pinecones at times. Betty loved to dance and have fun, as well. She was definitely a loving mother, devoted wife and true friend to many.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 9062 Kiln De Lisle Road, Pass Christian on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 10 - 11 am with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am . Burial will follow in the Old De Lisle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Betty's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family would like to sincerely thank the Cannon Hospice staff for the genuine, loving care they all provided to Betty and the family during her illness.
