ANDREW W. HANDL (d. 1914)

Andrew Handl, an aged resident of the south side, suffered a stroke of paralysis Saturday afternoon while walking along Washington street, near the corner of 12th. He was carried into a neighboring building and a physician called. It was some time before he regained consciousness whereupon he was taken to his home.

FALLS DEAD AS HE WALKS ON STREET ON WAY TO HIS HOME
ANDREW HANDEL, FOR 20 YEARS SCHOOL JANITOR IN CITY,
DIES SUDDENLY FROM HEART ATTACK LAST NIGHT
Stricken by a sudden attack of heart failure, while on his way to his home at 10 o'clock last night, Andrew Handel, for twenty years a janitor in public schools of the city, expired on the street. Mr. Handel expired before medical aid could be summoned.
Mr. Handel was stricken at the corner of Twelfth and Washington streets while on his way home from a meeting of St. Boniface society, which he had attended. People on the street saw Mr. Handel fall and when they reached his side, found him dying. In falling Mr. Handel sustained a deep cut in the head but death is said by physicians to have been due to heart failure and not to any injury in the fall. Mr. Handel was taken into the Trutchell
place in front of which he was stricken, and later the body was removed to the family home at Nineteenth and Washington streets.
For twenty years or more Mr. Handel had been employed as a janitor in public school buildings of the city, having formerly been in charge of the Third ward building and later the Seventh ward school. He was 76 years of age, having been born in Germany, February 11, 1838. In the early 60's Mr. Handel located in this city.
Mr. Handel is survived by a widow and thirteen children, Mrs. J. Wolf,
Kaukauna; Mrs. Joe Denk, Branch; Mrs. F. H. Williams, Milwaukee;
Frank Handel, Waukesha; Louis, Albert, William, Michael, Joseph,
Emma, Mrs. J. Schroeder, Mrs. Walter Thiers and Theresa Handel,
this city.
The funeral of Mr. Handel will take place from St. Boniface church
Friday morning at 9 o'clock.
