Donald G. Holly, age 91, a resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Donald was born on August 28, 1923 in Shoto to the late Joseph and Lillian (Kolicek) Holly. He graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1940. On August 4, 1943, Don married Marie Huinker at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whitelaw. Marie preceded Donald in death on November 3, 2009. Don was drafted and served in the United States Army from November 1945 to August 1946. After working at Mirro Corporation for 14 years, Don worked at Shoto Corporation for 23 years until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed spending his time gardening, hunting and fishing. Over the years, Don and Marie enjoyed spending their summers at Shawano Lake, gambling trips to the casinos, listening to the Mystic Moods, playing and calling bingo at the Manitowoc Senior Center. Don was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc, the American Legion Post #88, having been a past commander, and the creator of the infamous Friday Fish Fry batter recipe. He also belonged to the Manitowoc Senior Center, and had been an active member of the Shoto Conservation Club Dartball Team.

Don is survived by six children: Dale (Carol) Holly, Shoto; Bob Holly, Hartford; Ann (Ron) Haensgen, Shoto; Joan (Bruce) Smith, Manitowoc; Jim (Virginia) Holly, and John (Becky) Holly, both of Shoto; 16 grandchildren: Jeannie (Ron) Mrotek, Linda (Mark) Messer, Heather (Tim) Pinnow, Stephanie (Barry) Davis, Rob (Brenna) Holly, Mike (Andrea) Holly, Steve (Holly Binversie) Haensgen, Holly (John) Michels, Tyler (Brigitte) Smith, Andy (Kelly) Holly, Tera (Nathan) Preder, Patrick (Alysa) Holly, Christopher, Nicole, Nathan and Jacob Holly; 18 great-grandchildren: Courtney and Cassidy Mrotek, Joey and Aaron Messer, Otto, Augie and Etta Pinnow, Baxter and Maisy Davis, Spencer Holly, Jack and Sam Michels, Caeden and Connor Holly, Natea and Natalee Preder, Ava and Zoey Holly, and one expected in July; two brothers: Paul (Betty) Holly, Sun City, AZ; Eugene (Evey) Holly, Las Vegas, NV; sister: Dorothy (Bob) Krause, Shoto; sister-in-law: Delores (Francis) Shea, Appleton; special friend: Ginny Oswald; friend: Rose Marie Malick; Senior Center dancing partners: Marilyn Walters and Sharon Stern; also many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents; sister: Ellen Sconzert; mother-in-law and father-in-law; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and special friend Bernice Schwahert.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo – 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum at a later date. Immediately following the funeral service, military rites will be accorded by Drews-Bleser American Legion Post 88 outside of church. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A prayer service will led by Deacon Alan Boeldt at 7 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
