Maria Elizabeth Oostdijk was the daughter of Cornelius Oostdijk and Adriana In't Velt. She was born in Noord Brabant in Fijnaart en Heiningen on Feb 25, 1863. Her father was a bricklayer and due to economic hardship, his family immigrated to America in 1867. They arrived in New York aboard the Cella of Bremen on June 17, 1867. She arrived in America the same week as her future husband who was only 7 years old at that time.

Maria lost her parents at a relatively early age. No trace of her mother can be found in the 1880 census, when Maria was 13 and her father died sometime between 1880 and 1900. As of this writing, I haven't been able to locate her parents in any of the area cemeteries or in vital records.

On April 14, 1884, Maria married Paul K. Breen, son of Krijn Breen and Nellie Visser in Allegan County, Michigan.

Six children blessed this marriage. All were born in Allendale, Allegan County, Michigan. They were Kryn Breen who married Jessie Bouwman, Adrianna Breen (my great grandmother) who married Peter Klaas Cook, Nellie Breen who married Everett Scharphorn first and John Wigger second, Neil Breen who married Pearl Van Eeuwen, Jean Breen who married Albert Van Zytveld, and Edwin P. Breen who married Gertrude Koster and Lenore Gilette.

Maria Elizabeth Oostdijk Breen died in Grand Rapids at the age of 77. At the time they were living at their home at 1109 Crosby NW.

A special thank you for Jazzy *Angel Flower Garden Member* for providing the tombstone picture for Mary Breen, my great great grandmother. I have never gotten the chance to visit her grave in person, so having the picture is especially meaningful. Thanks again.
