Melvin B. Adams, 85, of Water St., McVeytown, went to be with the Lord at 10:05 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Golden LivingCenter-William Penn in Lewistown.Born Dec. 10, 1929 in Mattawana, he was a son of the late Chester D. and Carrie E. (Moist) Adams. His wife, Ruth A. (Gordon) Trutt Adams, survives him. His first wife, Delores M. (Bingaman) Adams, preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1981.Also surviving are: a son, Michael K. Adams and wife, Ethel, of McVeytown; a stepson, Eugene D. Trutt, Sr. and wife, Gail, of New Cumberland; a daughter-in-law, Mary Trutt, of Lewistown; two sisters, Florence Weaver, of Lewistown, and Betsy Charlotte Fisher, of McVeytown; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a stepson, Samuel Trutt; six sisters, Dora Zeiders, Blanche Adams, Mary Settle, Susie Heimbach Colledge, Grace Mizerek, and Annie Adams; three brothers, Homer, Miles, and Richard Adams; and one grandson.A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the Corps of Engineers in Korea.He retired as the McVeytown Borough manager, and previously had worked at FMC Corporation in Lewistown.Melvin was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the McVeytown Fire Co., and a founding member of the McVeytown Ambulance Association, where he served as foreman for many years. He was a former member of the Seven Mountains EMS and the Moose Family Center in Lewistown.He enjoyed operating with the Mifflin County Ham Radio Club, camping at the Grange Fair, and was a NASCAR enthusiast.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Rev. Scott Andrews officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors accorded by VFW Post #7011, Lewistown.A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
