MATTAWANA - Myles C. "Umpy" Adams Sr., 82, of Mattawana, Mifflin County, died at 7:39 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center. Born Sept. 18, 1919, in Vineyard, Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Chester D. and Carrie E. (Moist) Adams. His wife, Lenora G. (Bingaman) with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 23, 2002, survives. Also surviving are: children, Myles C. Adams Jr., Port Royal, RD1, Mrs. Kevin (Ronna) Bloom, Mattawana, and Brian C. Adams, Duncannon; siblings, Mrs. Lawrence (Susie) Colledge, Lewistown, Grace Mizerek, Covina, CA, Florence Weaver, Lewistown, Melvin Adams, McVeytown, Betsy Fisher, Mattawana; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dora Zeiders, Blanche Adams, Mary Settle, Annie Adams, and brothers, Homer Adams and Richard Adams. He was employed as a custodian for the Mifflin County School District before retiring in 1982. He was previously employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and had also hauled steel. He was protestant by faith and a member of the Johnson Spring Hunting Camp, Longfellow. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Jeanette Rapp officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
