Mr. Hale and his brother, Art, owned and operated Hale's Produce market, Atchison, until the early 1940's. Mr. Hale also worked for the former Rockwell International in Atchison for five years. In 1945, he opened Hale's Service Station, which he owned and operated until his retirement in the early 1990's. He was a former member of the White Shrine.
Born Oct. 27, 1915, in Hill City, Kan., he graduated from Doniphan, Kan., High School. Mr. Hale was an Elder emeritus and member of the First Christian Church in Atchison, where he taught Sunday School for 25 years. He also was a member of the Modern Builders Sunday School class of the church, and was the former chairman of the church board.
On Sept. 12, 1937, he married Bethel Buchanan in Atchison. She survives of the home.
Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Mariah I.; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Additional survivors: two sons, Wayne O., Atchison, and Wendell L., Savannah, MO.; a brother, John F., Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Betty Wood, Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas
