Florence Bolander Gatlin, 83 of Dime Box, Texas, died on Monday, September 28, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.

Florence was born on June 20, 1932 in Lee County to Claud and Ellen Mae “Green” Bolander. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Beat Five and graduated from Dime Box High School in Dime Box, TX.

She was employed at Woolsworth Department Store in Houston. Then she graduated from the 30th Century Commerce Business School and became a Book Keeper for A.P. Ruth Company.

She married Winston Gatlin on June 8, 1963 at Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. She was a homemaker, active church member of Durkee United Methodist Church, and served on the PTA Board for DeChaumes Elementary School in Houston.

After Winston’s retirement in 1982, they retired to Lee County. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she participated in functions, especially the Agape Circle. She also enjoyed volunteering her time at Rejuvenation and the Dime Box Heritage Society.

Florence loved baking, making arts and crafts, doing word finds, and reading the Bible and the Upper Room Devotional. Her family was always her first priority and she loved every moment that she had with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Ellen Bolander; husband, Winston c.Gatlin Sr.; brother, J.T. Bolandar; and three sisters, Elvira Bolander, Laverne Griffin, and Lillian McDaniel.

Florence is survived by her daughter, Tina and her husband, Craig Wernecke of Magnolia; her son, Winston C. Gatlin Jr. and his wife, Gwen of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Weston Wernecke of Magnolia, Victoria Gatlin and Abigail Gatlin, both of San Antonio; her brother Alton Bolander of Spring; two sisters, Marguerite Allphin and husband Noble of Bryan and Lina Ruth Kelly and husband Coleman of Bullard. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members that loved her.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Giddings, Texa with burial at the Beaman High Prairie Cemetery in Beat Five, Texas. Visitation will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 759, Giddings, Texas 78942 or to a charity of one’s choice.
