Abel Ogden Penfield was the yougest son of Sturges Penfield and Laura Giddings.

He was a well known horticulurist and nursery man in Pittsford.
On 22 Sep 1853 he married Anna Elizabeth Jenkins in Pittsford, Vermont on 22 Sep 1853. The couple moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where he took up farming and remainded till his death.
Abel and Anne had two children:
*Caroline "Carrie" E. Penfield (1866–1911)
*George Wallace Penfield (1872–1962)
