Hilbert C. Brandt

TRIMONT - A Celebration of Life service for Hilbert C. Brandt, 95, of Trimont, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Jackson County, with full military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont.

Brandt was called to eternal rest Friday morning, Nov. 27, 2015, at the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont.
Hilbert Clayton Brandt was born Oct. 19, 1920, on the farm in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, Minn., to Henry H. and Mary (Hartjen) Brandt. He worked at home for neighbors until July of 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until his honorable discharge in 1945. He served in Pacific Theater of Operations on five different destroyers, attaining the rate of Signalman 1/C. Hilbert was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Commendation for Combat and nine Battle Stars. He returned to the home farm and farmed with his dad until 1949, when his brother Bud and he farmed together until 1952. Hilbert continued to farm the "Home" place until his retirement in 1984.

Hilbert was united in marriage to Norma Nordhausen on Jan. 14, 1967. In 1984, they bought a home in Arizona and spent winters there and summers in Minnesota for many years. Hilbert served on the Co-Op Oil board for 25 years and served on the Trinity Lutheran Church board as President, secretary, Elder and usher. He was also a member of the Trimont American Legion Post for 70 years, serving as Commander as well as many other offices. He had been a member of the Rifle Squad since 1974. As a young man, Hilbert played for the Alpha softball team for 10 years. At the age of 54, he and Norma took up the game of golf and enjoyed playing for many years. He was a member of the Fox Lake Golf Club where he served on the Fox Lake Golf Club Board.

Norma died on April 3, 2012. Hilbert continued to live on the "home" farm until he entered Ingleside Assisted Living in October of 2012. On Jan. 1, 2013, he became a resident of the Trimont Health Care Center.

Survivors include: his sister, Vera Brack of Lakeville; brother, Vyrn Brandt of Worthington; sisters-in-law, Carol Brandt of Trimont, Evelyn Lawrence of McAllen, Texas; brother-in-law, Norman Shorts of Mt. Home, Idaho; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; siblings, Evelyn and Paul Casey, LaVerle Brack, Eunice Shorts, Eldred "Bud" Brandt, Merva and Bob Carlson, Agnes Brandt, and John Lawrence; and other relatives.
