Evelyn "Evie" Brandt Casey, 89, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul Lauer, officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Evelyn was born to Henry H. and Mary (Hartjen) Brandt in Enterprise Township of Jackson County. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball Township of Jackson County. With the exception of three months, Evie was alone in her eight years in District 20 elementary school. After graduation from Jackson High School in 1939, she attended Worthington Junior college. She graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of
Minnesota in 1943 and with an M.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from State University of Iowa in 1944. She worked as staff member, head dietitian and teacher at hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa and Wichita and Topeka, Kansas before coming to Mankato in 1958. She was head dietitian at Immanuel and Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospitals from 1959-1976 and was a faculty member in the Nursing Division and Home Economics Department at Mankato State University 1958-1971. She married Paul F. Casey November 24, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was a member of the American, the Minnesota and South Central Dietetic Associations. She has been a volunteer with the Red Cross,
Diabetes Association, Habitat for Humanity and Salvation Army. She has been a very active volunteer at Our Savior's Lutheran Church serving on boards, assisting with programs, chairman of the funeral lunch committee and sewing quilt tops for LWML. She received many awards including the AAL Volunteer of the Year Award, Good People Jefferson Award, Distinguished Friend of Nursing Award and Sertoma Service to Mankind Award. She especially enjoyed volunteering for VINE Faith in Action. She was in the first group oriented to be a VINE volunteer. Her enthusiasm and warm smile brightened the day for the many people she served. She loved people and enjoyed serving them in many different ways.

Survivors include three brothers, Hilbert (Norma) of Alpha, MN, Eldred "Bud"

(Carol) of Trimont, and Vyrn (Agnes) of Worthington. One sister, Vera Brack of Mankato; brother-in-law Norman Shorts, Sr. of Mountain Home, Idaho; 23 nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and many friends, She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, parents and sisters Eunice and Merva.
