Vernon grew up in Tuttle and graduated from Tuttle High School with the class of 1952. He married the love of his life, Leatrice Joy Main, on January 21, 1955, in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Vernon worked as a truck driver and was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church in Tuttle. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and going to the lake. He also enjoyed playing golf and woodworking. After retirement, he and his wife, Joy, traveled extensively in their RV all over the United States, virtually from coast to coast. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Louis Plumlee; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Wood.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy Plumlee, of Mustang; three sons, Martin Dale Plumlee and wife, Gina, of Tuttle, Ronald Wayne Plumlee and wife, Karen, of Blanchard, and Gregory Alan Plumlee and wife, Beth, of Farmington, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Michael Long of Mississippi, Kacey Plumlee of Florida, Cynthia Rollins and husband, Josh, of Union City, Oklahoma, Kayla Mills of Yukon, Oklahoma, Austin Plumlee of Missouri, and Taylor Plumlee of Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Mickenzie, Braiden, Avery, and Hendrix; one sister, Helen Wood of Tuttle; three brothers, Hubert Plumlee and wife, Mary, of Oklahoma City, Paul Plumlee and wife, Joy, of Oklahoma City, and Joe Plumlee and wife, Joy, of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Plumlee of Tuttle, and Retha Plumlee of Konawa; and many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Tuttle. Burial will Follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
