This past Monday, we lost Poppa. He slipped away at 5:43p.m., just four days before his 85th birthday.

Whatever Poppa touched bloomed, the flowers in his greenhouse, the vegetables in his garden, and the people in his life. This strong but gentle man inspired such profound love in our hearts that we can't quite believe he is gone. We miss him greatly.

Born in Salt Lake City, to Willard Richards and Florence Grant Smith. He attended East High, LDS Business College, and the University of Utah. He served in Hawaii during World War II, in the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Zion's Bank, C.W. Silver Company and Smith Administrators. He was a member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club, Sons of Utah Pioneers and The LDS Church, serving missions in Great Britain and in the Salt Lake Liberty Stake with his sweetheart. He also sang for many years with the Millennial Chorus.

His eyes welled up with tears each time he told the story of the night he met Marjorie Silver, whom he married on November 8, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She survives him today with their three children, Richard (Eliisa); David (Carol), and Marjorie (Jim) Skidmore; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Jacobsen; and brothers, Briant and Howard Smith;.

We will hold Funeral Services on his birthday, Friday, March 10th at 12:15 p.m. in the Parley's 6th Ward, 2350 So. 2100 East. Viewing will be Thursday, March 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Drive,

and Friday, from 11-12 noon, at the Ward. We will lay his body to rest in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. We will plant flowers and we know they will bloom.
