Democratic City Chairman and
Custodian of the City Building
dies Early today
--------------------------------------------------

James A. Kilgore 51, Democratic city chairman and custodian of the city building, died at his home at 2516 North C Street this morning at 6:30 o'clock after several weeks illness of a complication of diseases. While it was known that this well known citizen was seriously ill and no indication of improvement apparent, it was not thought that the end of his life was so near and his death caused a shock to the community when word of his passing was learned early today.
All of Life in Community
Joseph A. Kilgore was the son of Gilbert and Mary Kilgore and was born at Rigdon June 9, 1878. All of his life has been spent in this community, and he enjoyed a wide circle of friends by whom he was held in high regard.
He was united in marriage on June 27, 1903 to Miss Myrtle Saul. Three children were born to their union, one dying in infancy and the daughter, Mrs. Mildred Barrett, of this city, and the son, Milo at home with the widow, survive.
Active Party Worker
Mr. Kilgore was always a dependable worker in the Democratic Party and his services were appreciated in each campaign. For the past eight years he has served as city chairman and did valuable work for the success of this party's candidates. He was completing his eighth year as custodian of the City building when stricken by illness and in this capacity became known to many citizens as a courteous an efficient city employee.
Member of Fraternities
He was a member of the Elwood lodge of Loyal Order of Moose and of the local camp of Woodmen of the World and had been honored by the election to the highest offices in each. He was and active worker in both fraternities and he will be sadly missed in them as in other circles. For the past fifteen years he had been affiliated with the Methodist Protestant church.
Everyone who knew Joe Kilgore liked him well and in his death Elwood loses a good citizen.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist Protestant church Sunday afternoon a 2:30 o'clock by the Rev J.C. Coons, and the Loyal order of Moose will preform their rites, burial will follow at City cemetery.
