G. H. KLOCKE PROMINENT FARMER SUFFERS FATAL ATTACK WHILE FISHING
Gideon H. Klocke, a resident of Knox County since he was a boy and a prominent farmer, was found dead late Monday afternoon, May 10, 1954, on the bank of a pond on his farm three miles northeast of Edina, where he apparently had suffered a fatal heart attack while pursuing one of his favorite pastimes, fishing. He was 72 years old.
Robert Binkley had gone to the Klocke place to see Mr. Klocke on a matter of business and found him at 5:15 o'clock lying by the pond.
The body of Mr. Klocke was brought to the Hudson Funeral Home here, where it remained until time for funeral services at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon by the Rev. L. M. Hanson of Knox City at the Bee Ridge Methodist Church, of which Mr. Klocke was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr Klocke is survived by his wife; two sons, Merle Klocke of near Newark and Paul Klocke of northeast of Edina; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Anderson of Knox City and Mrs. John Brown of Novelty; four brothers, Frank Klocke of Knox City, Edward Klocke of Edina, Henry Klocke of Randolph, Kan., and Ralph Klocke of Lincoln, Nebr., and five grandchildren.
Gideon Henry Klocke was born Sept 14, 1881, in Riley County Kansas, a son of William and Henrietta Wholer Klocke both natives of Germany, with whom he came to Knox County when he was 11 years old.
He was married Feb. 10, 1904, to Winifred Murphy, the golden wedding of which was observed Sunday, Feb. 14, at the home of their son, Paul Klocke, on the farm adjacent to theirs. The wedding fifty yeas ago was was performed at the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Robet Murphy, on Bee Ridge by Mrs. Klocke's brother-in-law, the Rev. J. S. Tharp, now a retired pastor.
Mr. and Mrs. Klocke lived all of their married life in Knox County, except for a year in Arkansas and five years in Kansas. They lived the last seven years on the northeast of Edina, prior to which they lived in the Newark community since 1920.
Mr. Klocke was preceded in death by his parents, a brother who died in infancy and another brother, Karl Klocke, who died in 1919.
