John was born in Taranta Peligna, Italy. His parents were Panfilo Natale & Elisabetta Madonna. He was the 2nd of 9 children. His birthname was Giovanni Vincenzo Cosmo Natale.

His father was a shoemaker & taught his sons the trade, which John used as his profession. He married Rachele Valentini in Alfedena on Sept 18, 1904. She was born in 1882 in Alfedena, Abruzzi. She died May 29, 1906 at age 24. They had a baby daughter Anna Carmela Elisabetta born Oct. 11, 1905 and died Nov. 9, 1905 (3 weeks old)

Now a widower, after this great sadness, John immigrated thru Naples Aug. 24, 1906 on the SS Roma & arrived in Ellis Island Sept. 6, 1906. He had $20 in his pocket. He was the last of the 4 Natale boys that immigrated. As was the case with his brothers he did not read, write, or speak English. He was sponsored by his uncle Giovanni Angelo Merlino in NY upon entry.

John made his home in Clarkstown, NY where he was a shoemaker for 44 years in nearby W. Nyack!. W. Nyack is a tiny hamlet 17 mi north of New York City. John was naturalized after 1910. A small man, he was 5.4 & 160 lbs.

He married Maria Della Cioppa Sept. 14, 1908 in Yonkers. They had 7 children & lived in West Nyack. They were great people. Maria died Jan. 31, 1934.

After Maria died he married a lady named Mary in 1937. She outlived him. She helped him raise his younger children. She visited Colorado with him & our family knew her.

Sadly, John died July 5, 1952 in West Nyack. The Catholic cemetery grave is a large plot. It includes wife Maria & children Michael, Panfilo, Dennis & Ferdinand.
