Betty Abernathy Medlin, 77, of Catawba passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 20, 1939 in Gaston County to the late Major and Myrtle McAlister Abernathy.

Betty was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden and retired from Broyhill Furniture after many years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, James Ronald Medlin; sisters, Pauline Abernathy, Marie Abernathy, Margaret Brooks, Elizabeth Abernathy, Helen Hager; and father-in-law, James William Medlin.

Those left to cherish her memory are;

Brothers: Wayne Abernathy of Maiden
Frank Abernathy and wife Linda of Lowell
Harold Abernathy of Denver

A host of nieces and nephews

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden. Rev. Jeff Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, 6815 E. Hwy. 150, Maiden, NC 28650.
