Born April 26, 1945 in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Major and Myrtle McAlister Abernathy. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Maiden.
In addition to his parents, wife, Linda Kay Drum Abernathy; 3 brothers and 8 sisters preceded him in death.

Daughter: Regina Abernathy of Kannapolis
Son: Fred Abernathy of the home
Step-son: Danny W. Smith of Maiden
2 Grandsons: Danny L. Smith & Wesley Cline

A graveside service will be held, Monday February 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church Cemetery in Maiden.
