With experience as a butcher and grocer, Camiel built a meat market and grocery located in East Moline (you can still see the "CFiems" on the upper façade of this building as of 2017) that they ran for most of the roaring 1920's. In 1929 they moved to Moline, where they bought and ran a tavern called "The Wooden Shoe". For over twenty years they were known by all the locals as "Ma" and "Pa" Fiems.
They had three sons together; Joseph (Joe), Archiel (Archie), and Francis (Frank).
In 1955 they retired and sold the business to their son Joseph and spent time with their other two sons and families down in Arizona.
