W.J. “Jake” Henderson, born March 17, 1939 in Franklin, NC, died Sunday, March 14, 2004 at his residence. A native of Macon County, he was a son of the late Robert Glen Henderson and Mabel Elizabeth Dills Henderson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was self-employed as a sand wholesaler. He was a member of Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Julia H. Estes and husband, Robert, of Zionsville, Ind., and Jennifer H. Hinote and husband, Lloyd, Jr., of Charlotte; his wife of 39 years, Polly Kelly Henderson of Asheville; two brothers, Arley Henderson and Sam Henderson, both of Franklin; two sisters, Helen Tallent and Glenda Cook, both of Franklin; four grandchildren; five nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Jackson and Rev. Andy Cloer officiated. Burial will be in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.
