Arline Marie Brethouwer

Arline M. Brethouwer, 81, of 224 North 9th Street, Oostburg, was taken to her heavenly home in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday afternoon, April 28, 1998 at St. Nicholas Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sunday.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1916 in the Town of Lima, the daughter of the late Abram and Anna (Ramaker) VerGowe. She attended Hingham Grade School.

On Dec.19, 1935, she married the late Raymond Brethouwer at the home of her parents in the Town of Lima. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1986.

Arline was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg and the Presbyterian Women’s Association and Circle.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Lyle) Schoenfeld, Sheboygan; Jo (Keith) Wallner, Oostburg and Kathi Brethouwer, Oostburg; four sons, Richard (Mary), Manitowoc; Donald (Patti) Sheboygan Falls; Larry (Renee), Oostburg and Robert (Yvonne) Brethouwer of Oostburg; 18 grandchildren, Michael (Debbie Teghanernt) Brethouwer, Martin Brethouwer, Stacie Thompsom, Kurt Brethouwer, Kristi (Fiance, John Loehr) Brethouwer, Todd (Amanda) Powell, Shawn (Carrie) Powell, Dawn Schoenfeld, Sandra (Fiance, Paul Jacquette) Schoenfeld, Tammy (Mark) Korman, Craig and Troy Brethouwer, Cory (Sheryl) Brethouwer, Becky and Mary Brethouwer, Miriah, Heith and Caleb Wallner; eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan Teghanernt, Collin and Kathryn Powell, Donovan, Alexis and Chase Korman, Josh Sheid and Jordan Brethouwer; and one sister, Laura Lensink of Pine Haven Christian Home; further survived by three foster grandchildren, Dana, Hope and Payton Foelske, nieces and nephews. Arline was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a grandson, two sisters, Delia Hesselink and Ruby Kappers; and two brothers, Winfred “Fritz” and Edward VerGowe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 1998 at First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg with the Rev. James DeCamp, pastor, officiating.

A family service will be held at 1:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the Huehns-Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday, at church from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

A memorial fund is being established, in her memory, to First Presbyterian Church and the Sheboygan County Humane Society.
