She was born May 15, 1920, the eldest child of Albert and Mary Shimek. Mary was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and at an early age the family moved to Grimms. She attended Grimms Public School and graduated from Reedsville High School with the Class of 1938. On February 1, 1940 she married Joel Thompson and they ran the home farm for many years. Mary was active in her church and taught Sunday School for many years along with being a member of the Altar Guild and other church organizations.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: John Thompson, Valders and Roger (Pat) Thompson, South Windsor, CT; two grandsons: Stephen (Veronica) Thompson, Tolland, CT and David (Pamela) Thompson, Marlborough, CT; four great-grandchildren: Alexander, Naomi, Ethan and Aiden Thompson, all of CT; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Andrew (Claire) Shimek, MA and Henry (Jean) Shimek, Kellnersville; and a brother-in-law: Paul Braun, Manitowoc. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Mary Shimek; her husband: Joel Thompson; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Sylvia (Lester) Zipperer, Mabel (Harold) Bodart, Dorothy (Mike) O'Neil, Kathryn Braun; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Milton (Edna) Shimek and Paul (Darlene) Shimek; and an infant brother: Albert Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Ted Johanson. Mary will be laid to rest at Valders West Cemetery.
The family will greet relative and friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders.
