He was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Fitchburg, the son of Samuel and Concetta (Anzalone) Valera , and had lived there before moving to Leominster many years ago. He attended Fitchburg schools.
Mr. Valera was a foreman for 20 years at the former Selig Manufacturing Co. He was also a facilitator for 20 years at the Jamesbury Co. in Worcester before he retired.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.
Mr. Valera was a member of St. Anna's Church, the Leominster Senior Citizens, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Olga V. (Pellecchia) Valera of Leominster; a son, Athony Valera Jr. of Leominster; two daughters, C. Patricia Toth of Sterling and Diana Giallorenzi in Pennsylvania; a brother, Philip J. Valera of Leominster; four sisters, Josephine Calamare, Rose Catanese, Mary Varieur and Angela Barone, all of Fitchburg; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by a brother, James L. Valera , on Dec. 1, 1991, and two sisters, Connie Barone and Joanne Valera .
The funeral will be held Tuesday from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St.
Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery.
