He leaves his wife, Nina (Chiarelli) Valera ; a son, J. Dean Valera of Leominster; a daughter, Gail A. Wefers of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Philip and Anthony Valera , both of Leominster; four sisters, Josephine Calamare, Rose Catanese, Mary Varieur and Angela Barone, all of Fitchburg; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Mr. and Mrs. Valera were married Nov. 30, 1946. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Salvatore and Concetta (Anzalone) Valera , and lived here 45 years.
Mr. Valera graduated from Fitchburg High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was a carpenter for many years for area construction companies, and was working until the time of his death. He was a 33-year member of Local 475, Carpenters Union, in Ashland. Mr. Valera was a member of Our Lady of of the Rosary Church in Clinton, where he was a longtime collector. He was a member of Clinton Lodge of Elks, the Clinton ITAM Club and the Boylston Senior Citizens.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1 Cross St., Clinton. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
