SOUTH BEND - Betty W. Gassensmith, 93, of Regency Place, formerly of Churchill Drive, died Monday in St. Joseph Community Hospital, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Mercedes M. Gassensmith of South Bend; and a son, John F. of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, where a rosary will be said at 6 p.m.

Betty W. Gassensmith, 93, of Churchill Drive, recently in Regency Place, passed away following an illness at 6:35 a.m. on Monday, May 24, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1906, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Martin J. and Stella (Skelka) White.
Her career was spent as an office secretary.
On Jan. 15, 1925, in Chicago, III., she married Cyril F. "Cy" Gassensmith, who also preceded her in death on July 22, 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Mercedes M. Gassensmith, and her son, John F. Gassensmith, both of South Bend; and by two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Gassensmith was a member of St. Anthonys Parish and the Daughters of Isabella, Notre Dame Circle.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, to the Faith, Hope & Charity Chapel, or to St. Anthonys Parish.
