Roma Lee Carroll, 76, of 630 Shakespeare Street in Stratford, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Sunday, September 15, 2013. Roma was born in Magnet, Nebraska, on May 30, 1937, to Adolf and Ada (Peters) Trautman. She grew up in Hartington, Nebraska, and graduated from Hartington High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Phillip Carroll, on June 1, 1954, while he was serving in the U. S. Air Force. From this union, one child, a son, Samuel was born. After Phillip was discharged from the Air Force, they moved to California to be with his side of the family. In 1959, the family moved from California to Iowa. Roma developed many longstanding relationships over the 30 years she worked at the Stratford bank. Roma enjoyed gardening, playing the organ, singing, reading, puzzles, macramé, sewing, calligraphy, caring for their many cats and houseplants and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed assisting with church events. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Trautman. Roma will be greatly missed by her husband Phillip; a son Sam Carroll and wife Jamie of Ankeny, Iowa; a grandson Ryan (Nikki Zeigler) Carroll of Stratford, Iowa; a granddaughter Michelle Peterson and husband Reilly of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren Levi and Saffron Carroll of Stratford, Iowa; 2 sister Violet Thorell and Marion Henrickson; a brother Norman Trautman and a twin brother Rollie Trautman and wife Jo; as well as many other extended family members and friends. Following Roma’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday morning, September 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Friends may call at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Any memorial donations in honor of Roma will be distributed accordingly by the family, per her wishes to organizations that held a special place in her heart.
