Mrs. Gladys Darter, 87, of Springfield, Mo., died July 6, 2007, in St. John's Hospital. She was born January 23, 1920, in Cosby, Tenn., the daughter of Bruce and Virgie (Gunter) Dorsey. She was a homemaker and retired seamstress, and a resident of the Springfield area since the 1950s. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter W. Darter in 1971; her daughter Betty Lou Speitel in 1998; her sisters, Frances Settlemyre, Pauline Smith and Rena Arp; and her brother Edward Dorsey. She leaves her son, Walter "Bill" Darter of Springfield; her daughter Betty Duckworth and her husband, Don, of Joplin, Mo.; her sisters, Jean Keckler of Purdy, Mo., and Shirley McMillen of Newport, Tenn.; and her brothers, Harold Dorsey of Cosby, Tenn., and Wayne Dorsey of Gatlinburg, Tenn. She also leaves seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and several cousins in Tennessee. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Mo. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. in Springfield National Cemetery.
