Margaret A. Grube, age 92, of 1235 S. 24th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, May 20, 2007, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Margaret was born in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Arthur F. and Clara Toepel Pape. She was baptized, attended school and was confirmed at First German Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Margaret graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1932. She attended classes at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Ill. After working for several years, she enrolled at Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing, Manitowoc. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the College of St. Francis, Juliet, Ill.
Margaret married Russell Grube on Oct. 15, 1949, in Manitowoc. They moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where Margaret was employed at Riverside Hospital. After her husband passed away in 1972, she moved to Sheboygan to become head nurse at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. Margaret retired at age 72, and did volunteer work for almost 10 years. She was an avid reader and traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. She enjoyed cooking, calligraphy and painting small wooden objects.
Margaret is survived by four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Esther Pape, Fond du Lac; Cornelia Rude, Milwaukee; Louise (Walter) Otterstatter, Fond du Lac; and Renata (the Rev. Eugene) Kitzerow, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Waldemar, Gerhardt, Adolph and Theodore Pape; and three sisters: Clara Pape; Olivia Wayland; and Irmgard Breiling.
A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2007, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1033 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Steven Hahm will officiate.
Relatives and friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m.
