Peter Alonzo Osborne Rees was born to John Bartlett and Henrietta Lowrance Rees on September 6, 1837 in Purdy, McNairy County, Tennessee. He was the youngest of five children and his siblings were Sidney Benner, Daniel Adophus, George M. and Martha Adeline Rees.
According to the National Parker Service, US Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865, database, in 1865, Alonzo enlisted in the Confederate Army. He was in Captiain McCord's Frontier Regiment, Texas Cavalry, Company A as a Junior 2nd Lieutenant.
On January 16, 1868, Alonzo married Eleanor Ann Brown in Center Point, Texas. Together they had 12 children and they were John B., Willie Ellen, Joshua D., Martha Adeline, Joseph Denton, Louis Luke, Georgette Etta, Osborne, Sarah Jane, Charles Jacob, James Lenoir, and Abigail Katherine Rees.
From 1870-1910 Census Records, they show that Alonzo and his family were farmers. On January 26, 1919, his wife, Eleanor, and her children had to bury Alonzo. He is buried in the Center Point Cemetery, Kerr County, Texas
"Peter Alonzo Rees, enlisted at age 16 as a Ranger Minute Man." According to the Kerville Times, Alonzo was in the Texas Rangers until he enlisted in the Confederate Army and Alonzo "was elected to the sherrif office and served there faithfully for a good many years". Kerrville Times April 29, 1954
