John Dinkel tells in his autobiography how he got an "A" for his middle name. Over the years family members have tried to figure out what the A stood for. None are correct. He wrote that many years ago when he first had his farm in Victoria there were three other men on his mail route with the name of John Dinkel. The mail was constantly being mixed up between the four of them. He decided to stop the confusion by giving himself an initial as a middle name. He chose "A." It stands for nothing, was completely made up, and not part of his real name. However, he came to be known to everyone, even family, as John A. Dinkel. He even wrote his name that way and some legal documents show his name as such.
