Patrick is my Paternal Great Uncle
Son of John William White (abt1849 -1917) and Mary Bridget nee Shaughnessy (abt 1849 - 1931)
On the 9th of December 1895 Patrick joined the Military in Birr. Service Numbers: 9268 and 4687 (Leinster Regiment) - Stated age as 18 years old, however he was actually 16 years old. Served until 8 Dec 1911. Continued to be in the Reserves. He served in South Africa in 1902.
Married Margaret Clavin on the 16th of August 1908 at the Catholic Church in Castletown, Meath, Ireland. Patrick's occupation is a labourer. They would have 5 children together: Mary Anne born 1908 - Bernard (1910 - 1959) Bridget Agnes (1912 - 1973) Patrick (1915 - 1979) and John White (1920 - 1988)
1901 Irish Census: Unknown
1911 Irish Census: Living with his wife, parents (John and Mary White and their children) at 142 Main Street, Banagher, County Offaly. Included in this census are Patrick and Margaret's children: Mary Anne and Bernard.
At the end of 1911 Patrick joined the British Army and moved to Lancashire, England.
During the Great War, Patrick, 8 of his brothers and 2 brother in laws joined the Connaught Rangers. Amazingly they all would survive. On the 7th of August 1914 he joined the Leinster Regiment - Service Number: 4687 - Rejoined and served until 18 Apr 1919 where he was promoted to Major - Serial Number: 11904. Transferred to class "Z" Army Reserve on demobilization.
Currently researching where Patrick was in 1921 census. (There is one option I am researching)
Unable to find Patrick in the 1939 UK Register. (There is one option I am researching)
Patrick passed away at Hyde Hospital on the 22nd of December 1950 from Cerebral Arterio Releroris (Stroke). Buried on the 23rd of December 1950.
