Martin is one of 12 children born to John William White and Mary Bridget nee Shaughnessy.
He enlisted with his 9 brothers in WW1 including 2 brother in laws. Amazing they all survived. He was part of the Connaught Rangers and Leinster Regiment. Martin received the DCM as well as the 1914 Star, also Victory Medal. Rank: Company Sergeant Major for the Connaught Rangers - Service Numbers: 8237 - Transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, Service Number: 61952
Martin is the biological father of Mary Christine Hogan.
Martin moved to Manchester in England and married Mary Ellen Sheldon on 30th October 1914 at Mount Carmel Church. They would have 6 children together.
The sad ending for Martin came at the age of 31. He was working on the railways and was killed by a passing train. An inquest was held. Martin died after 2 days in Salford Royal Hospital from hemorrhage of the brain following a compound fracture of the skull without regaining consciousness. Verdict: Accidental Death. Mary would give birth to their 6th child a daughter 2 weeks after his passing.
Martin was buried on the 3rd of May in the family grave. Sadly no Headstone.
