LEONARD HALE
ROME -- Leonard Hale, a well known and esteemed Roman, died at 6:13 p.m. today at his home 615 North Jay street. He had been in poor health for two years but had been confined to the bed only since Saturday. He was born in South Trenton, March 6, 1852 and came to Rome in 1872 and since lived here. He was engaged in farming for a few years and for over 25 years was engaged in the meat business until he retired several years ago. In this city in 1873 he married Miss Margaret Duff, who with the following nine children survive: Mrs. Alfred Tudman, Verona, Thomas Hale, Port Leyden; William Hale, Rome; Frederick E. Hale, Medford,, Mass., Mrs. John Wilhelm, Verona; Mrs. Seth G. Blair, Greenway; Mrs. Arthur Wells, Utica; Mrs. Rachel Scammell, Stanley; Mrs. Arlo Thayer, North Jay street; also two brothers, Frank S. Hale, Bartlett; John Hale, Fayetteville; one sister, Mrs. Janette Watkins, Syracuse, and 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Hale was a member of the Presbyterian Church. In his business career his dealings with the public were such as to inspire confidence and all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance esteemed his highly.
