BRAMWELL - Howard P. Goins, 84, of Rt. 1, Box 64, Bramwell, (Bramwell Hill) died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at his residence.
Born Oct. 12, 1920 in Freeman, he was a son of the late Arthur and Pearl Allen Goins. He had lived in Bramwell all of his life, was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army. He was a member of the Bramwell Wesleyan Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Bryant and Dorothy Lucas.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Velma White Goins of the home; son, Roger Perry Goins and wife, Violet of Bramwell; brothers, Arthur Goins Jr. of Bramwell and William Goins of Indiana; sisters, Lillian Frith of Rocky Mount, Va., and Zelda Cook of Bramwell; grandchildren, Alinda Shaffer, Dean Goins, and Dale Goins; five great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. Harry Christie and the Rev. Martin Furrow officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
Pallbearers will be Robby Lockhart, Brandon Goins, Allen Goins, Dale Watkins, Donnie Goins, and Kester Lane.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Perdue, Bill Ellis and Eugene Lavender.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Goins family.
