Shirley Marie Johnston, 77, formerly of Burke, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Malone, N.Y., where she had been a patient since Jan. 7, 2008.

Born in Malone, on Dec. 9, 1933, she was the daughter of Felix and Cordelia (Lamica) Martin.

Her first marriage was to Eugene Parnapy in Malone. He predeceased her on Nov. 18, 1967. Her second marriage was to Gordon "Sandy" Johnston on Jan. 16, 1971, at the Burke United Methodist Church by Rev. Dorothy Bullard. He predeceased her on Nov. 13, 2005.

In her early years, Mrs. Johnston attended schools in Malone. She enjoyed bingo and attending the Burke Field Day.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by her children: Jane and Joseph McNerney of Venice, Fla., William and Deborah Parnapy of Burke, James and Camelia Parnapy of Malone, Robert and Edna Parnapy of Chateaugay, Brenda and Ronald Patnode of Chateaugay, Amy and Brian Crippen of Burke, Jeffery and Tiffany Johnston of Burke; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Abraham Martin of Constable; a sister, Bertha Shova of Malone; half brothers, Adrien and Alice Brooks of Malone, and George Brooks of Malone; half sisters, Madeline Perry of Malone, Linda and Gordon Rheault of Hartford, Susan Donahue of Malone; a stepsister, Shirley Haywood of Malone; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Friend of Bangor, Eleanor and Robert Quigley of Burke, Robert and Edith Johnston of Malone, Donald and Verla Johnston of Burke, Richard and Sally Johnston of Burke, Everette and Donna Johnston of Burke; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by her parents; a son, Thomas Parnapy; a granddaughter, Jessica Marie Crippen; sisters, Victoria Duemars, Pauline Savoir, Theresa Mallette, Dorothy Friend, Geraldine (Jo) Rivers; half sisters, Sandra Jarvis; stepsisters, Evelyn Lee, Rita Evans, Ida Lambert; stepbrothers, Francis, Arthur, William, Norman, Raymond, Kenneth, and Wilford Brooks; and several in-laws.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 31, from 10 am to 1 pm. A funeral service will follow calling hours at 1:30 p.m., in Burke United Methodist Church with Rev. Derek Trudell officiating. Spring burial will take place at Sandy Knoll Cemetery, Chateaugay.

Donations in her memory may be made to Burke Adult Center, Burke Fire Dept. or Activities Fund at Franklin County Nursing Home.
