Dorothy E. Maitland, 98, passed away at her home on Friday, April 1, 2016, surrounded by family. Dorothy was born July 13, 1917 to William Orin and Mary Martha (Rice) Stevens in Exline, Iowa. She married Laurence Maitland on January 29, 1944 in Rockford. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1979. Together they raised five children. Dorothy retired from Clinton Electronics in 1981. She was a long-time member of Central Christian Church, where she volunteered in the office for many years. She was a member of the Keenager Sunday School Class and enjoyed the many trips they took. In later years she was a member of the Friendly Bible Class. Dorothy enjoyed many great times and long-term friendships through her membership at Central Christian Church. Dorothy is survived by her children: Gary (Barbara) Maitland of Cherry Valley, Rick (Linda) Maitland of Roscoe, Lorna (Jim) Rost of Rockford, Linda (Dennis) Marston of South Beloit, and Barb Lucas of St.Lucas, IA.; grandchildren: Doug (Christy) Graves of Corning, AR, Julie(Dwayne) Moore of Calmar, lA, Paul Rost of Middleton, WI, Rachel Graves of Madison, WI, Carly Rost of Loves Park, Beth Maitland of Rockton, Sarah (Ty) Anderson of Mt. Zion, IL, Nikki Paris of Rockford, and Heather (Doug) Jackson of Fort Atkinson, lA, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by grandson Robert Laurence Maitland, a great-grandson, brother, Vernon Stevens, and; sisters, Vera Gladfelder and Ruth Gladfelder. Services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday April 6th at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park with Sherm Nichols minister of Central Christian Church officiating. Visitation at 9:00am to time of service. Private burial. The family wishes to thank Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and support during our mother's illness.
