Mrs. Mary Addink, age 96, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 9:30am to 10:30am at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Mark Vande Zande officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born on November 5, 1925, on a farm near Orange City, the daughter of John and Marie (Huisman) Kiel. She attended country school, then Sioux Center Community High School, and then teacher training in Sheldon. She subsequently taught in country schools for a few years.

On February 13, 1947, she married Henry Addink, and they began farming near Sioux Center and then Orange City. She worked as a stay-at-home mother for her seven children, and as they grew up, she continued her strong commitment to children by providing daycare from her home. In their retirement years, Mary and Henry volunteered for the Red Cross. Mary was also active in helping Southeast Asian immigrants adjust to life in Northwest Iowa. Mary and Henry were members of First Christian Reformed Church, where Mary was active in Faith, Hope, and Love Society.

Throughout her life she had a strong commitment to serve her Lord by doing what was right, along with the knowledge that she was saved by grace. She maintained a sense of awe, marveling at the intricacies of the world God created. She loved to read and compiled her favorite sayings into a book, Treasury of Gems.

Survivors include six children and their spouses, Carol and Marlo Van Klompenburg, of Pella; Marvin and Sherri Addink, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Roger and Alice Addink, of Sumas, Washington; Jan and Mike Verdoorn, of Orange City; Kathleen and John Woudstra, of Whitehall, Michigan; Dale and Alyona Addink, of Keller, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Walcott Addink, of Phoenix, Arizona; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Kroeze, of Orange City; four sisters-in-law, Myrtle Kiel, Edna Kiel, and Geri Kiel, all of Orange City; and Grada Kiel, of Sioux Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald; three grandchildren, Craig Van Klompenburg, Jodi Addink, and Matthew Van Klompenburg; five sisters-in-law and their spouses, Gertrude and John DeGroot; Minnie and John Byl; Alice and Pete De Groot; Dena and Albert Van Riesen; and Hattie and William Verdoorn; ten siblings and some of their spouses, Stephen and Hermina Hulstein; Hilda and Dick Addink; Steve and Henrietta Kiel; Kathryn and Arend Wassink; Bill and Joan Kiel; Howard and Marie Kiel; Orville Kroeze; Clarence Kiel; Ray Kiel; and Vern Kiel.
