W. J. Batman Dead
The death of W. J. Batman of the south side occurred this morning from a stroke of apoplexy. He had just finished eating breakfast in the restaurant of his son Hugh Batman, 10th and Main, when he was stricken. An ambulance was called immediately and he was taken to the hospital where everything possible was done to relieve his condition but to no avail, his death occurring a short time after his arrival there. He had been a resident of this county since an early day. He was born in Indiana, 57 years ago, his birthday, March 17, having just passed. Of late years he had not been in good health and came to town last Friday with his son and had planned to stay here several days. He leaves a wife and five children, Hugh, Ralph, Elmo, and Gladys, at home, and Mrs. Clarence Sebern of Gentry of Gentry, Arkansas. He is also survived by his mother, a brother John Batman and two sisters, Mrs. Ann Stevenson and Mrs. Pearl Ballard of Indiana. William Henry Batman and Oliver Batman of this city were his uncles. Mr. Batman was a man who had many warm friends, a man who was honest and kind and who was liked by all. Definite arrangements had not been made this afternoon for the funeral but unless the arrival of relatives should delay it, it will probably be held in this city, Wednesday afternoon, April 14, at 2:30 o'clock from the Baker Avenue Baptist Church.
