Vernon L. Shepard, 87, 1007 No. Ninth St., Elwood, died at Saturday morning at Mercy Hospital.

Born July 6, 1902, in Elwood, he was the son of Courtland and Jane Hazelbaker Shepard. He married Mary E. Crull in April of 1923. She survives.

Other survivors include seven sons, Eugene Shepard, Charles Shepard, Tom Shepard and David Shepard of Elwood, Arnold Shepard of Frankton, Harold Shepard of Kokomo and Dwight Shepard of Atlanta; three daughters, Carolyn Coffey of Elwood, Robert Roe of Tipton and Mary McClure of Cleveland, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Shepard of Elwood; 30 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

A daughter, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St., Elwood. Burila will be in the Hobbs Cemetery, near Elwood.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
