Harold Vernon Shepard, 76, 632 Reynolds Drive, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Saint Joseph Hospital. born Oct. 29, 1924, in Elwood, he was the son of Vern and Mary (Crull) Shepard. On Feb. 24, 1951, in Kokomo, he married Mary Lou Benge, who survives.

He served in the United States Army then later was in the Army reserves as a Master Sergeant. He was in Patton's 3rd Army during the World War II invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach. He also served during the Korean War. He earned American Theater Ribbon, Eam Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Medal in WWII. He belonged to United Auto Workers Local 685, and he was a member of Logansport Foursquare Gospel Church.

He worked at Union Carbide for 18 years then went to Chrysler where he retired in 1979.

He enjoyed baseball, softball, and boxing.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sandy Shepard, Young America, Ronald Joe and Vicky Shepard, Rodney Eugene and Mindy Shepard, all of Kokomo; two daugthers and sons-in-law, Sharol and Truman Eaker, Logansport, Kathleen and Tim Munro, Noblesville; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five borthers and four sisters-in-law, Eugene and Doris Shepard, Tom and Ruth Shepard, Chuck and Jean Shepard, Arnold and Diane Shepard, David Shepard, all of Elwood; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Roberta and Phil Roe, Tipton, Irene McClure, Tenn., Carolyn Shepard, Elwood; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Shepard, Atlanta, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. Hew was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; and one grandson, Joshua J. Shepard.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Pastor Bob Barber will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Nov. 3) at the funeral home. Military honors will be held at the cemetery on Saturday.
