Carl L. Schoonover, 70, of Chanute, Kansas, died Friday, April 28, 2006 near Grinnell, Iowa in a one vehicle accident.
He was born June 28, 1935 at Neodesha, Kansas, the son John and Erma (Hallbauer) Schoonover.
He attended school in Neodesha.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He married Marie Stone on March 6, 1961 in Parsons, Kansas. She survives.
He had worked for many years in the oil business and the camper industry. He worked for Barrett Transport as a Regional Manager from 1987 until his death.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and seeing the country.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #170 of Chanute.
Other survivors include daughters, Deanna Hutchison and husband Steve, Atlanta, GA, Teresa Starr and husband David, Chanute, KS, Toni Schomaker, Humboldt, KS, and Julie Schoonover and Chad Burk, Chanute, KS; a step-son Donnie Schoonover, Norman, OK; 3 step-daughters Carol Roes, Yukon, OK, Sherry Settle, Harbor City, CA, & Brenda Galpin, Merritt, FL; a brother, Duane Schoonover, Braman, OK; sisters, Betty Harshman & Maryann Dannels, both of Altoona, KS, Arlene Busick, Parsons, KS, Theta DeVoe, Fredonia, KS, & Sheila Kaufman, Neodesha, KS; 9 grandchildren, Loreli, Heaven, Timothy, Derrick, Tessa, Austin, Christopher, Jayce, & Molly; and 2 great-grandchildren, Clayton & Ty.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Loren & Melvern; and by sisters, Barbara Reynolds and Lorene Haviland.
Funeral services will be May 3, 2006 at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute, Kansas. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Donor's Choice.
